Haiku for Justin and Meredith

Dear Justin and Meredith,

We only recently learned that your mother's favorite flower was the sunflower, even though we have known your parents for nearly 10 years.  It did not come as a surprise to me, though, as I thought from the first moment I met your mother -- before Justin was even born -- that she reminded me of a sunflower!  She was so tall and slender and graceful, with a smile so bright she would light up a room.

Like a sunflower
Radiant, uplifted smile
She loves him, truly

Someday, your father can show you the wedding picture that inspired this poem.  We have been privileged to witness the strong, supportive bond between your parents.  You are so blessed to have such wonderful parents, and we know that together as a family you and your father will continue to find comfort and strength in your shared memories, and joy in keeping your mother's glowing spirit alive.  She loved her time with you, her time on this earth -- and she enjoyed life to the fullest.  She would want you to do the same.  By remembering her unconditional love and dedication, and following the path that she has helped lay down for you till now, you will not only honor her, but also feel her by your side, smiling with pride and happiness, every step of the way.

With love,

Sherri and Daniel Niclas
